Dear Players, Parents, and Supporters,

Welcome back to a brand new season! We’re excited to see our athletes hit the ground running as the school year kicks off. With homework, practices, and everything else on the schedule, keeping a consistent training rhythm is the secret to staying sharp and energized. Let’s make this our most productive season yet—your dedication now will pay off big when it’s time for fall ball!

⚾🏆 Player of the Month: Max Gruffydd

Player of the Month Tyler from Westview High School pitching a baseball.

Max Gruffydd truly raised the bar this summer! By stepping up to a more advanced division, Max faced some of the toughest hitters around and showed incredible maturity and determination.

In three of his last four outings, pitching four or more innings each time, he allowed just one run or less—a remarkable achievement! Max’s success stems from his self-awareness; he understands that physical talent only wins games when backed by a resilient mindset.

Max's positive attitude and commitment to how he approaches each pitch is a great example of how keeping your head in the game is imperative to what makes a successful player.

Congratulations Max—keep inspiring your teammates!  👏

Behind the Stats

Coach Tisch: What made you want to focus on pitching this summer?

Max: "I really wanted to focus on pitching this summer because I wanted to learn newer and better mechanics to gain velocity for high school.”

Coach Tisch: What’s the biggest thing that has changed in your mechanics and approach?

Max: "My mechanics are moving quicker and have more torque and power in them than I used to have.”

Coach Tisch: What’s been the hardest part of the process, and how did you push through it?

Max: "In a couple tougher outings, I recognize my mindset has not been the same as it is when I am pitching during coaching sessions, and I realize I have to constantly think to myself about the importance of my mindset in games and in-between games.”

Coach Tisch: What would you tell a teammate thinking about training with me?

Max: "I would tell them that you are an amazing coach who I have worked with for almost seven years and that you have helped me learn new things constantly that no other coach could teach. I love that we can really talk about the game and pitching, and it’s really easy to do with you.”

💡Pro Tip from Coach Tisch

Ready to dominate? Focus on these three pillars to transform your play this year! 📈

✨ QUALITY

Repetitions: Quality repetitions in practice are more important than quantity. Changes happen in practice with attention to small details.

🧘 MINDSET

Mental Approach: The best pitchers and hitters in the world have short memories. The last pitch is over. Stay present for the next one.

🏗️ GROWTH

Offseason work: This is the time to change the most. You can work on different movements and master them before the season starts.

The journey is the reward! 🌟

Why I Became a Coach

I wasn’t always the guy getting recruited. In high school, I was a bench warmer and had to work for every repetition, every opportunity, and every bit of improvement. That path eventually led to getting drafted by the Chicago White Sox in 2001 and again in 2002, and going on to play professionally. It took years of grinding to get there. That journey is a big part of why I coach the way I do. I know what it’s like to not be the most talented kid on the team, and I know what it takes to close that gap.

When I was playing professionally, I saw firsthand how many young players were dealing with arm injuries often from mechanics that were never properly taught or corrected. That hit close to home for me. I was playing for Team USA when I tore my UCL and had to undergo Tommy John surgery, an injury that ultimately ended my professional career.

Going through that made me want to make sure other kids didn’t have to face the same outcome. That's why I started coaching: to teach proper mechanics early, so players can build strong habits that protect their arms and set them up for long-term development not just short-term results.

⚾️➕🥎 Now Also Working With Softball Players

In addition to baseball, we also work with softball players on hitting and fielding and the results have been excellent. If you have a daughter looking to sharpen up her swing or clean up her defensive fundamentals, we’d love to work with her.
